no mango! (nutroast)

i ate the mango on it's own. pah.

okay, so it's going to be another food post, this is because i rarely leave my house and hence have little to mull over.

so for now i will leave you with a link to Toothpaste for Dinner whoch is taking up significant portions of my day at the moment.

Also I have for you THEE SIMPLEST (and mega tasty) Nutroast recipe ever.

2 hand fulls of almonds (soak in hot water & remove from water before adding to other ingredients))
1 cup red lentils (cooked in 1 inch of grated ginger)
1 stock cube
1 onion
4 cloves garlic
1-2 tsp dried mixed herbs (or use any mix of marjoram, sage, parsley, oregano)
2 tsp chilli powder
handful of linseed/sunflower/mixes seeds (optional - can be added just before cooking)

mix all ingredients and blend*

let stand

put in greased muffin tin

cook @ gas 6 for 30 mins.

I threw this together the other night and was really surprised how well it turned out. I think the trick is cooking the lentils in ginger. Also, cooking the mix in a muffin/cake tray makes serving easier and it looks kinda pretty too. (one day i'll get hold of a camera)

*I use a blender like this one which I think was about £10, you can get the same sort of thing from about £5 upwards and it's a pretty good investment- in my opinion the stick kind is better than the bowl kind because with the stick you're not limited by volume of food to blend, you can use the stick for one cup of beans or for 20 portions of soup in a HUUUUGE pot.

Change of Direction

I don't know that any one's read this for ages, but more fool them if they have- it's not been updated since June. Anyway, I heard some people were reading it, and since I randomly Email some people with recipes, I thought I'd publish them. Not one tonight because I just don't feel like it. But in my immediate arsenal there's Ace Muffins, N'egg' Fried Rice, Cheez Cake, Chinese Takeaway-Style Curry and so on and so forth. None of my recipes include "fake" ingredients, none of them necessitate popping to yr local Hippie emporium, and none of them take forever to cook.

I'm not pretending anything will rid you of Liver Cancer, nor will they help you win Master Chef, but they may point you in the right direction at times of trouble, when you need the things in the cupboard to turn up trumps.
